Uno de los principales logros de ALEKSANDR PUSHKIN -poeta, dramaturgo, narrador y novelista- fue fundar propiamente la prosa rusa, dando origen a un prodigioso venero que en no muchos anos habria de alumbrar obras como «Almas muertas» (L 5714) de Gogol, «Anna Karenina» (BA 0895 y BA 0896) de Tolstoi o «Crimen y castigo» (L 5553 y L 5554) de Dostoyevski. Gestados en 1830, los RELATOS DEL DIFUNTO IVAN PETROVICH BELKIN, en los que Pushkin (1799-1837), con actitud ironica y desenfadada, recorre en un escenario ruso y con personajes rusos los estilos narrativos de los escritores occidentales, son justamente -como nos dice en su introduccion Ricardo San Vicente- la primera manifestacion de esta fuente, que en el caso del autor habria de prolongarse en obras como «La hija del capitan» (L 5533), «La dama de picas» o «Dubrovski» (ambas reunidas en L 5692). Completan la obra a modo de apendices la «Historia de la aldea de Goriujino», relato acerbo, censurado e inconcluso que pretendia dar un paso mas en el camino ya iniciado, asi como el prologo escrito en su dia por Yuri Lotman para la edicion espanola, nunca publicada, de su biografia del genial escritor.
