Few writers have better captured the times they were writing in as well as Charles Dickens. His depictions of character and scene have created a lasting legacy for generations of readers. This collection brings together three of the author's titles that deal with social inequality, a theme indelibly part of Dickens' soul and background. Hard Times reflects Dickens' deepening interests in social inequalities, the story of a fictional milltown in Lancashire borne from time the author spent in Preston in 1854.

Charles Dickens was an English writer and social critic. This volume contains two novels, including The Mystery of Edwin Drood, the final unfinished novel by Charles Dickens. Edwin Drood is contracted to marry orphan Rosa Bud when he comes of age, but when they find that duty has gradually replaced affection, they agree to break off the engagement. Shortly afterwards, in the middle of a storm on Christmas Eve, Edwin disappears, leaving nothing behind but some personal belongings.
